The fans have been waiting for a Half Life 3 announcement since a long time now, but till now has been heard is just rumors. The next game in the series is rumored to be under development, but there is no info on the launch date of the game. But in another exciting development what can bring some cheer to the Half Life fans is a report that reveals that Half Life 2 can now be played on your browser for free. The project is still not completely in a finished state, but with some fixes it might be an excellent achievement for the fans. Half Life 2 was released almost 22 years back, but the magic of the game is still alive in the hearts of the fans.
After 22 years, now you can finally play Half-Life 2 right in your browser. It runs smoothly using WebGL and WebAudio, works on most browsers, and even supports real-time mouse controls and save states. The game runs locally on your browser by using WebGL 2, which allows the gamers to play Half Life 2 directly in their browser without installing the Steam version or downloading a really heavy size game package.
How to Play Half Life 2 in Your Browser?
Here is how You can Enable WebGL 2in your browser. Half Life 2 on a browser is an unofficial fan project made by two high school students. It runs locally using WebGL 2, so there’s no cloud streaming or installation needed—just open a tab and jump straight into City 17 or Ravenholm. The port came out on June 24 and took about three months to make. It works in the browser by turning the Source Engine’s graphics into WebGL 2, while loading maps and game files as you play. Early tests show it runs surprisingly well, but it’s not perfect—facial animations are turned off, some visuals are missing, and you might notice stutters when new content loads in the background.
However, the project is not legal, and it allows the players to access the game content directly without providing their own files. The project has not received any official authorization and there are chances that it might have some copyright issues and could be shut down later.
